Clear vs. Knotty Cedar

What's the difference?

Both Clear and Knotty Western Red Cedar woods provide a beautiful, natural aesthetic in rich, warm cedar tones. They have natural oils the make the wood resistant to rot and decay. Knotty cedar comes from trees that are younger, but the primary difference between the two woods is visual. Clear cedar has a smooth, calming aesthetic, while knotty cedar has a cozy, rustic feel thanks to the variations (knots) present in the wood. So the type of cedar you choose for your Pure Cube or Dundalk Sauna simply depends on which aesthetic you prefer. All saunas are available in Clear or Knotty Cedar.

Q. What types of saunas do you offer?

We offer both indoor and outdoor saunas in a variety of styles and sizes. They can be either wood or electric heated, based on your needs and preferences. Electric heated saunas are desirable for their ease of operation, as your sauna can be started up with just the press of a button. Wood heated saunas are ideal for those who enjoy a more traditional fire experience and the ambience and smoke of a wood fire. Wood heated saunas take a bit more time to start up.

Q. How much do your saunas cost?

Our saunas start at around $6,500 plus installation. Installation locally is typically $1,500-$2,000. Prices vary depending on style, size and features. The best way to get an accurate quote is to call us at (317) 773-3545 or visit our Noblesville showroom.

Q. Do your saunas have heaters with rocks and steam?

Yes, Leisurecraft sauna heaters are all the traditional Made in Finland sauna heaters with the rocks on top where you pour water on top to create the humidity and steam.

Q. How hot can the saunas get?

Leisurecraft saunas get to 190° Fahrenheit and up, depending on the conditions outside the sauna.

Q. How long will it take for my sauna to arrive and be installed once I order it?

All saunas are made to order. Typically, before you place your order, the factory will give us a timeframe of how long it will take to produce your sauna, and we will be sure to go over with you prior to purchase. This will take into account seasonality and factory production lead times. Once your sauna arrives to us, we will coordinate with our installation teams internally to put it on the schedule, and that can depend on the time of year, and seasonality can dictate that as well. All that to say, it will depend.

How should I prepare for my sauna session?

Turn your sauna on about an hour before using it. When there are about thirty minutes left, hop in for a perfect session. Keep your sauna at the default temperature of 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Drink plenty of water before and after your sauna session. An electrolyte replenishing drink is also recommended. Listen to your body. Some people find the sauna experience uncomfortable due to high heat or feelings of claustrophobia. Ultimately, you know your body best, so pay attention to how you feel.

Build tolerance gradually. If you’re new to sauna therapy, you might want to start with a shorter session or reduce the heat for your first time and work your way up to longer, hotter sessions.

Q. How long should my home sauna session be?

The best practice is to use your sauna no more than twice a day and limit the time inside to 20-45 minutes. When first beginning sauna sessions, use at least twice a week for 10-15 minutes, working up to 30-40 minutes slowly. Even though you may become accustomed to the heat, it is advised not to exceed 45 minutes in a single session.

Q. Are home saunas safe for kids?

Yes, although caution should be used and children should never use the sauna without adult supervision. As children are smaller than adults, their body temperatures rise more quickly. This happens because of a higher metabolic rate per body mass, the inability to regulate temperature through sweating, and limited circulatory adaptation to increase cardiac demands. When a child uses the sauna, ensure a lower temperature is set and the amount of time in the sauna is reduced to 15 minutes. If you are unsure if your child should be using your sauna, contact your physician.

Yes! All Leisurecraft saunas include a 5-year warranty.

Q. Can I purchase a kit and put the sauna together myself?

Yes, you can definitely do that if you'd like. Keep in mind that you will likely require a team of helpers, including someone with knowledge of wood and some construction background.
