In a society that is driven by technology and innovation, it is increasingly important for children to be given an environment that fosters imaginative play. Many kids today are stuck behind a video game controller for hours reacting to what they see on a TV screen, instead of thinking about all the endless activities they can do with their friends or just being outside. At Recreation Unlimited, we think it’s time to change that!
Performance Play and Imagination – A Winning Combination!
Studies have shown that students who participate in performing arts tend to see an increase in all academic subjects. This is not by mere coincidence! Using one’s imagination can lead to discovering new ideas and thought patterns, rather than just seeing and accepting things for “what they seem”. When kids are taught to think outside the box, it unlocks countless opportunities of what they can create. Pretend play builds skills in multiple areas of child development.
Having a playset or a playhouse creates a whole new world of imaginative possibilities for a child. Playing in a playhouse with friends, pretending to bake cookies or make lemonade allows a child to communicate with real or imaginary friends. This gives parents a chance to hear how their child can talk to others and pick up on words and sentences they have heard. By simply pretending or actually talking to another child, your child’s language improves and helps them listen and communicate.
